Subscriptions
Add streaming, software, memberships, and other bills that renew weekly, monthly, or yearly — counted as a steady monthly cost.
Where to find it
In the app, go to My Plan → Subscriptions — the card sits right below Expenses & debts — and click + Add subscription for each service you pay for on a schedule: streaming, software, a gym, a warehouse-club membership, and so on.
The fields
- Name — a label, like
NetflixorCostco membership. - Category — the same list as expenses. It defaults to Discretionary.
- Amount per bill — what one bill costs, in today's dollars. For a yearly renewal, enter the yearly price; for a monthly plan, the monthly price.
- Billed — how often the bill comes: Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Every 6 months, or Yearly. Weekly counts as 52 bills a year.
- Cost over time — Rises with inflation or Stays fixed, the same choice as on expenses.
- Starts (optional) — the first month you pay it. Leave blank to begin at plan start.
- Ends (optional) — set it to the month you'll cancel. Leave blank to keep it for the rest of the plan.
Under Billed, the app shows what that subscription costs per month and per year — a $139 yearly bill shows as $11.58/mo · $139.00/yr. At the top of the card you'll see the totals for the subscriptions active this month (or at your plan start, if it's later), per month and per year.
How subscriptions reach the forecast
Each subscription is counted as its monthly equivalent: the amount × bills per year ÷ 12. So a $120 yearly renewal is $10 in every month, not $120 in one month. That means both your monthly and yearly expected expenses include your subscriptions, and the month detail on the Forecast tab lists each one by name.
Like every expense, the amount is grown by inflation from your plan start — unless you set it to Stays fixed. See how inflation grows your expenses.
Not in the Expenses & debts list
Subscriptions live only on their own card, so they're never counted twice. The Expenses & debts card notes how many subscriptions you have and what they cost per month now, so you can see the full picture in one place.
On the Spending tab's comparison, a subscription counts toward its category's plan figure. When that category doesn't match your real spending, change it on My Plan rather than with the Spending tab's update button — the app won't rewrite a subscription to a whole category's spending.
Subscriptions vs. recurring subscriptions on the Spending tab
When you view actual spending, the Spending tab can spot recurring subscriptions in your imported transactions. Those are separate from this card — nothing is copied over automatically. If you want one of them in your plan, add it here by hand with + Add subscription.
